Hotlinking Protection
What is hotlink protection and just how does it work? When do you need such?
Hotlinking is an expression that identifies the addition of images on a given site using direct links. If you have site A, for example, and somebody creates site B and wants to add a couple of images from your website, they could either save the images and then include them on their site or they could simply place links on their site to the images on yours. Consequently, when a visitor opens Internet site B, site B will steal traffic from your own website A, because the images shall load straight from your web hosting account. This technique is usually used for documents and other types of files too. If you would like to prevent third parties from stealing your content and from using your own hosting account’s resources, you are able to restrict their capability to use direct links to your files on their Internet sites.
