All generic TLD extensions and several country-code ones support a security lock option whose function is to prevent unsanctioned transfers of active domain names. Many domain name registry organizations that oversee country-code TLDs that do not support this feature are in the process of introducing it for better security and for the convenience of the domain owners. A domain name can be transferred only on the condition that it is unlocked and only a person who has been given access to the account with the current registrar can achieve that. New domain names are registered with the lock option enabled intentionally, so as to impede any unauthorized transfer attempts. The lock feature is one of the security measures for regulating the transfer of existing domains between domain name registrars that have been introduced over the years.
